Building My Electric Guitar - Routing The Pickup Cavities

Next comes routing the pickup cavities. In order to make them, I needed a router template, which I made out of 3/4 in. pine. I based it on this Pickup cavity pattern I found here.

I properly positioned my router template on the guitar body. Here is a photo:

Notice near each corner of the pickup cavity template there is an curved pencil mark. This shows me how much clearance the router needs so I can place my clamps out of the way of the router. Usually I forget about that and have to re-set the clamps after I start routing.

Once the pickup cavity template is in position, I used a forstner bit to rough out the pickup cavity. I drilled down to just under 1/2 inch, as that is how deep they will be.
